How to Take a Web3 Product From Idea to Mainnet

Sequencing strategy, design, contracts, and infra — in the order that avoids rewrites.

Programmer working on code at a modern desk

Taking a Web3 product from idea to mainnet means sequencing four kinds of work — strategy, design, contracts, and infrastructure — so none of them forces a rewrite of the others. Start with the smallest onchain footprint that proves value, then expand.

1. Scope the smallest provable thing

Write down the one onchain action that must be trustless, and make everything else a normal web feature until traction says otherwise. Most failed launches put too much onchain too early.

2. Prototype the hard flows

Onboarding, signing, paying gas, and recovering. Test these with real users before writing contracts — changing a prototype costs hours, changing deployed logic costs weeks.

3. Build contracts test-first

Threat model, then unit, invariant, and fuzz tests in Foundry. Aim for audit-ready code before you contact an auditor, not after.

4. Launch like infrastructure

Testnets, monitoring, pause controls, and runbooks. Mainnet is day one of operations, not the end of the project.
